Pattern Test: Stitchwerx Designs Lane Raglan Tee & Tunic and Essential Leggings

A couple of weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to test 2 patterns from a new-to-me designer, Stitchwerx Designs. Kim offers a variety of PDF patterns in her Etsy Shop - from Coffee Cup Cozies, to Dog Sweaters, to Children's clothing & accessories! She offers sewing patterns as well as crochet patterns.

I was selected to test 2 of her new children's patterns, the Lane Raglan Tee & Tunic and the Essential Leggings, which will both be released tomorrow, November 26! It was so much fun testing these 2 patterns! I have sewn with knit fabric on a few occasions but I'm not a pro by any means, so it's always good to go a little out of my comfort zone every once in a while. Keep reading for an in depth review of the patterns and to find out about Stitchwerx Design's huge SALE coming up!

For those who may not be familiar with it, knit fabric is stretchy, unlike woven fabric which doesn't stretch. Knits can also be pretty thin which also makes them more difficult to work with. If you've never sewn with knit before, there are tons of great tutorials and easy patterns to get you started! This pattern was particularly informative, and had tons of great tips for working with knits! Huge bonus! Since I would consider myself a confident beginner with knits, I would say these patterns are great for beginners & confident beginners (as well as advanced sewers of course).

For both patterns, there were tons of options! For the Raglan Tee & Tunic:
•Sizes 12 months-10 years
•Top length or Tunic length
•Short Sleeves, 3/4 Sleeves, or Long Sleeves
•Hemmed or cuffed sleeves
•Hemmed or banded bottom
•Optional front pockets & side slit

For the leggings:
•Sizes 0-3 months - 10 years
•Capri or Full Ankle Length
•Hemmed bottom, ruffled bottom, or banded bottom

I was chosen to test the capri length leggings and the hemmed, short sleeve, tunic length raglan top. These days, Maci is wearing a 3T and sometimes even a 4T! My first choice was to test the 3T but I was chosen to test the 4T, so the fit is just slightly big on Maci. No biggie though, just more room to grow! And yeah, she's not even 2 and a half. She's a good eater :)

Check out that belly!

Both patterns have computer drawn pieces and went together easily. One thing I loved about these patterns is that Kim tells you exactly which pages you need to print based on what size you want. I usually go through every page of my PDFs to figure out what pages I need to print so I don't waste any paper or ink. For me, that's a huge time saver and less thinking that I have to do. Both of these patterns were so quick as well. When you have a 1 and 2 year old at home, sewing time can be pretty limited.

It took me about 20 minutes to print & assemble the pattern for the top, and another 20 min to get my fabric all cut out. Once it was ready to go, it took me about an hour to get her all sewn up! It only took about 10 minutes to print and assemble the pattern for the leggings, and less than 10 min to cut out the fabric. Sewing time for the leggings was only 25 min! LOVE it.

The fit of these pieces were as expected. Just a little big, but again, most of the time she wears 3T. Next time I make it, I'll do 3T and probably the long sleeve with the cuffed sleeves. I absolutely loved these outfits that some of the other testers made!

All in all, these were great patterns! Tons of options, clear instructions, good fit, and they were easy to sew up! The size range in combination with the fact that the Raglan Tee is unisex, make these patterns invaluable! I'll be using these for a LOOOONG time :)

Such a goofball!
